IT Architect. Triathlete. Dad.
I'm Andreas Breitenlohner. At work, I'm responsible for IT architecture at Brückner Group. Outside of work, I race long-distance triathlon and I'm a husband and the dad of two girls. All of it takes a plan and the patience to see it through.

About
What I've learned on the long course helps me in architecture. Sometimes it works the other way round.
-
1Swim
Get your bearings first
In open water, the fast swimmers are the ones who lift their head and sight the buoy. In architecture, that's the assessment you do before anyone talks about solutions.
-
T1Transition
Change cleanly
You don't win a race in transition, but you can lose it there. Good decisions are prepared before you need them.
-
2Bike
A pace you can hold
Ride the first 90 kilometres too fast and you'll walk the marathon. Big IT programmes are similar: the goal is usually right, but nobody can sustain the pace.
-
T2Transition
Hand over, don't hold on
Good architecture is documented well enough for others to run it. Otherwise it stays stuck with one person.
-
3Run
What counts at the finish is what holds
The last kilometres show whether the plan was any good. For IT systems, that's everyday operation after the project, when nobody is watching anymore.
You rarely lose a long-distance race for lack of strength. You lose it through bad pacing, a botched transition or forgetting to eat.

Work
I make sure IT fits together across every company of an internationally operating group. When every site builds its own thing, it gets expensive and insecure.
25years working in IT, since December 2000
- 2026 to presentSenior IT Enterprise Architect
I plan how infrastructure, networks, identities and interfaces work together across the whole group. The result is guardrails, decision papers and roadmaps that projects and investments can be measured against.
- 2023 to 2026Senior IT Security Engineer
Security architecture for several subsidiaries and a multi-tenant Microsoft 365 environment. Plus ISO 27001 audits at the subsidiaries, with risk assessments and roadmaps for the findings.
- 2021 to 2023Information Technology Security Professional
- 2014 to 2021IT Specialist, Manufacturing
- 2000 to 2014IT Systems Specialist
- 2003 to 2023IT Infrastructure Consultant
For small and mid-sized businesses in the region.
I've been living IT since the days of the C64, MS-DOS and BTX.
Games loaded with LOAD"*",8,1, you rebuilt CONFIG.SYS to squeeze out more free memory, and the modem whistled when it dialled in. Add the Game Boy. Today I plan the IT of an entire group of companies. The curiosity from back then is still there.
Family
The most important race is run at home.
My wife and our two girls put up with the long rides, the dripping wetsuit in the bathroom and the race weekends. Without this team, there would be no start line.
So I train when it fits our everyday life. Sometimes early, sometimes at lunch, sometimes in the evening. The rest belongs to the three of them.
Racing
For me, long distance is mostly training that has to find its place next to work and family. Race days are when it pays off.
